CV Writing / Formatting
Tuesday already ๐ฒ
As recruiters we often are asked about CV formatting, so we thought this might help if you are currently / thinking about looking for a new opportunity ๐
๐Making sure your CV is right up to date, this is so important, as recruiters we often receive Cv’s (VERY OFTEN) that are months out of date and candidate’s have had multiple roles since the last one stated on their CV; ensure you fill any gaps, even if you were completing temporary work or even taking a career break. Also check the CV’s you have up on the job boards as these can quite quickly become outdated without you realising which one is being sent to potential employers ๐
๐Location – It is important this is on your CV, this doesn’t need to be your full address, just town, or city – this helps us to match you to roles in your radius, or put you in contact with your most local office who will help you with roles close to where you live
๐๐ง Contact numbers and email addresses on CV’s – make sure you include these and they are correct. Even if you apply via job boards, ensure your email is also on there as quite often certain job boards create an email for you that doesn’t always enable us to reach you.
๐งAgain emails, some of us have had them since we were teenagers and since covid we have all moved on to teams / zoom meetings where your email is required. Please make sure this is a professional one, as sometimes this is one of the first impressions a client will have when they are entering them on to their meeting request ๐คญ
๐Your opening paragraph or summary, this should be at the top of your CV, it doesn’t need to be too lengthy, but should summarise what you have done to date and what direction you are wanting your career to go in, as well as a brief of your most recent duties and skills ๐ช๐ผ
๐จโ๐Education – this should include your High School and any further higher education including College, University and any NVQ’s etc completed alongside employment. We would advise dating your education as you would your workplaces as this helps us to cover any gaps, and establish courses completed within workplaces, University attended alongside employment etc etc ๐
โณLast but not least, your career history. We would advise stating your most recent / current role first as oppose to the paper round you had when you left school ๐! This gives us / potential employers a clear look at what you are doing right now or most recently! When listing your career history it is important to put dates of employment, company name and your position or positions held there. We would recommend listing your key duties as bullet points as oppose to paragraph upon paragraph as for employers it easier to read, quick, concise and to the point!
